Sunshine State Young Readers
The Sunshine State Young Reader's Award Program is a statewide reading motivation program for students in grades 3-8. The purpose of the program is to encourage students to read high interest, contemporary literature for personal satisfaction, based on interest rather than reading level. Through our participation in this program we hope to nurture lifelong readers who will continue to read for information and personal pleasure.
Our school library will have the Sunshine State Young Reader books available for students to check out. They will also be available at our Book Fair, as well as at public libraries throughout Broward County. Students who have read at least 3 books from the list will be allowed to vote on their favorite book during the month of April.
Please click www-pvmkr.stjohns.k12.fl.us/media/sunshine/ to view a list of the 2017-2018 Sunshine State Young Reader's books.
Students who will be participating in this program will take and pass the accompanying Accelerated Reader quiz with a minimum of 80%. We will have four Icee parties throughout the school year. Students who read and pass three Young Reader's AR quizzes by each due date will be eligible to participate in our Icee party. Remember that students must have read at least 3 of the SSYRA books in order to participate in the voting activity.
